Position: Division Manager

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Position Available: Immediately

Reports to: President

Position Description:
Client and associate focused leader that spearheads business development activities and firm strategies within the division while providing direction in the day-to-day operations to ultimately achieve overall corporate objectives and ensure profitability.

Education & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and/or Surveying or requisite experience in project management, minimum 10 years engineering experience, of which at least two years should have been in management capacity. Business experience and/or education helpful. Must have demonstrated effective communication skills, be results-oriented with high ethical standards and a team attitude. Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Must possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license within acceptable criteria.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc. Skill in analyzing information and exercising sound judgment in making decisions with appropriate follow through. Skill in writing wide range of reports, letters, and other documentation with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to properly retain and dispense confidential information. Ability to deal in a sensitive and professional manner with a wide range of employees, clients & vendors. Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with both internal and external business partners. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and manually (phone, e-mail, written correspondence, public presentations). Ability to take and follow through on directions. Ability to direct and follow-up with subordinates.

Essential Job Functions*:

Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of division projects to ensure that goals or objectives of project are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Business Management
  • Supervise and be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of division performance.
  • Manage internal performance management and compensation programs with support from Human Resources group.
  • Manage and maintain firm assets in relation to office, equipment, vehicles, etc.
  • Responsible for the monitoring and management of work-in-process, billings, accounts receivable and collection efforts for projects in coordination with accounting staff.
  • Assist in the formulation of business, marketing and strategic planning.

Marketing & Client Management
  • Initiate & maintain an effective business development program within market area & firm wide, securing profitable work on a routine basis.
  • Manage overall marketing and relationship building efforts focused on existing & key clients to facilitate positive relationships and communication.
  • Provide guidance and direction to subordinate managers in identifying potential clients, desired scope of projects, and proposal process.
  • Approve proposals greater than $50,000 before submission.

Staff Operations
  • Coordinate assignment of manpower with main office in timely forecast of project needs to attain direct labor goals.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, firing, and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; performance management process, addressing complaints and resolving problems in coordination with Human Resources support as necessary.
  • Forecast administrative, staffing, and facility needs for office and help build the capabilities of the division by recruiting talented and goal oriented associates and facilitating in-depth training and/or mentoring in coordination with Directors & Human Resources.
  • Facilitate a positive communication link between corporate and division office associates.
  • Supervise general administration duties.
  • Observe & follow Driesenga & Associates Safety Program.
  • Observe & follow Driesenga & Associates vision, mission and core values.

Project Management
  • Act as the designated company contact within operating area. Attend client meetings as required.
  • Responsible for overall control of the status of all projects within Division.
  • Strive continually to see that work is completed on time and within allocated budget. Maintain close liaison with clients to resolve project questions.
  • Lead and manage project development teams to achieve established goals for successful projects and outcomes.
  • Approve contracts up to $50,000.
Physical Capacity Requirements*:
Sitting, standing, walking, occasional lifting up to 25 lbs., talking, hearing, finger dexterity and/or feeling, near vision, far vision. Must be able to travel, at times long distances, by car or truck.

Environmental Conditions*:
Primary work environment will be in an office, with secondary work environment involving visits to client offices and/or job sites. Terrain may be level or highly challenging.
