Position: Engineering Technician I
Location: Raleigh, NC, Charlotte, NC, Kalamazoo, MI
Reports to: Group Manager
Position Description:A client-focused technical engineering position which focuses on the testing of concrete, asphalt, soil & masonry on projects in the areas of residential, commercial and industrial development, as well as municipal and transportation infrastructure projects.
Education & Experience Requirements: Must work well in a team environment and manage individual aspects of projects with little oversight. Educational requirements include 2 – 3 years experience and certifications in concrete, soil, masonry, and/or bituminous testing. Must have demonstrated effective communications skills, be results-oriented with high ethical standards and a team attitude. Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Must possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license within acceptable criteria.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Skill in analyzing information and exercising sound judgment in making decisions. Skill in writing wide range of reports, letters, and other documentation with a high degree of accuracy. Skill to properly retain and dispense confidential information. Ability to deal in a sensitive and professional manner with a wide range of employees, clients & vendors. Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with both internal and external business partners. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and manually (phone, e-mail, written correspondence, public presentations). Ability to take and follow through on directions.

Plans production and detailed design/quantity calculations of designated project to ensure that goals or objectives of project are accomplished within prescribed time frame by performing the following duties:
- Manage and be accountable for a wide variety of testing & inspection tasks involving soils, concrete, asphalt & masonry.
- Analyzes reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to plan work.
- Prepares initial reports to document results of testing processes for clients.
- Inspects construction site to determine conformance of site to design specifications.
- Set up and operate equipment by following manufactures instructions, observing use by others and asking for instruction if unfamiliar with any given equipment.
- Load and unload samples, technical and manual tools from vehicles safely & with care.
- Ensures truck is properly stocked with supplies needed to accomplish tasks/projects.
- Maintain equipment by cleaning as necessary completing preventative maintenance.
- Maintains neat & orderly work area (on-site, lab, etc.) allowing access to project information to other team members.
- Provide an accurate accounting of time spent on projects with descriptions for each time entry on a weekly basis.
- Provide guidance & development to fellow associates.
- Observe driving regulations and proper diving etiquette.
- Maintain safe working environment by complying with traffic safety procedures, using proper personal protection equipment, and complying with all Driesenga, OSHA, and/or site-specific safety regulations and/or guidelines.

Physical Capacity Requirements*: Sitting, standing, walking, regular lifting up to 50 lbs., talking, hearing, finger dexterity and/or feeling, near vision, far vision. Must be able to travel, at times long distances, by car or truck.
Environmental Conditions*:Primary work environment will be in the field (construction/work sites), with secondary work environment in the office. Terrain may be level or highly challenging.
