Position: Survey Assistant
Location: Raleigh, NC and Charlotte, NC
Reports to: Survey Crew Chief
Position Description:A client-focused position for someone who loves the outdoors. Position will work with and under the direction of the Survey Crew Chief to complete a wide variety of survey and staking services for our clients.
Education & Experience Requirements:High school diploma or GED and/or demonstrated math and verbal skills or related experience. Experience in survey and or construction helpful. Must have ability to work well in a team environment and at times unsupervised. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license within acceptable criteria.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Skill in analyzing information and exercising sound judgment in making decisions. Skill in writing wide range of reports, letters, and other documentation with a high degree of accuracy. Skill to properly retain and dispense confidential information. Ability to deal in a sensitive and professional manner with a wide range of employees, customers & vendors. Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with both internal and external business partners. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and manually(hand signals, radio). Ability to take and follow though on directions. Ability to learn, understand and utilize surveying technology and terminology. Ability to learn and utilize new techniques and equipment.

- Set up and operate equipment by following manufactures instructions, observing use by others and asking for instruction if unfamiliar with any given equipment.
- Maintain equipment by cleaning as necessary completing preventative maintenance.
- Holds level or stadia rod at designated points to assist in determining elevations and laying out stakes for mapmaking, construction, mining, land, and other surveys.
- Calls out reading or writes station number and reading in notebook.
- Marks points of measurement with elevation, station number, or other identifying mark.
- Measures distance between survey points with steel or cloth tape or surveyor's chain.
- Marks measuring points with keel (marking crayon), paint sticks, scratches, tacks, or stakes.
- Places stakes at designated points and drives them into ground at specified elevation.
- Cuts and clears brush and trees from line of survey.
- Load and unload technical and manual tools from vehicles.
- Ensures truck is properly stocked with supplies needed to accomplish tasks/projects.
- Provide an accurate accounting of time spent on projects with descriptions for each time entry on a weekly basis.
- Maintain safe working environment by complying with traffic safety procedures, using proper personal protection equipment, and complying with all Driesenga, MIOSHA, and/or site-specific safety regulations and/or guidelines.
- Observe driving regulations and proper diving etiquette.

Physical Capacity Requirements*: Sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs., talking, hearing, finger dexterity and/or feeling, near vision, far vision, clearing lines (utilizing chain saw, machete, etc.), pounding stakes. Must be able to walk long distances on uneven terrain while carrying equipment. Must be able to travel, at times long distances, by car or truck.
Environmental Conditions*: Primarily work outdoors in a wide variety of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. Terrain may be level or highly challenging.
