Position: Staff Engineer
Location: Charlotte, NC
Reports to: Group Manager, Project Manager
Position Description: A client-focused technical engineering and design position with focuses on residential, commercial, industrial and municipal development and transportation related projects. Will also assist with other departments as needed.
Education & Experience Requirements:A recent college graduate, with little to no experience, must work well in a team environment. Educational requirements include a Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering or Construction Management. Must have demonstrated effective communications skills, be results-oriented with high ethical standards and a team attitude. Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Must possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license within acceptable criteria.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Intermediate to Advanced skills in AutoCAD and/or Microstation CAD. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc. Skill in analyzing information and exercising sound judgment in making decisions. Skill in writing wide range of reports, letters, and other documentation with a high degree of accuracy. Skill to properly retain and dispense confidential information. Ability to deal in a sensitive and professional manner with a wide range of employees, clients & vendors. Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with both internal and external business partners. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and manually (phone, e-mail, written correspondence, public presentations). Ability to take and follow though on directions. Ability to direct and follow-up with subordinates.

Plans production and detailed design/quantity calculations of designated project to ensure that goals or objectives of project are accomplished within prescribed time frame by performing the following duties:
- Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents under supervision of Project Manager or Engineer from rough sketches or from general engineering and design information (verbal instructions and notes) using CAD software within allotted budget.
- Drafts detailed dimensional drawings such as those needed for residential, commercial & industrial development, highway plans, and water control projects and completes calculations with specific instructions.
- Calculates dimensions, profile specifications, and quantities of materials such as earthwork, concrete, and asphalt for engineering review.
- Analyzes reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design project.
- Reviews project specifications and confers with Project Manager or Engineer concerning assistance required such as plan preparation, design changes, reports and budgetary issues.
- Translates mark-ups into revised drawings, reviews drawings for completeness & accuracy prior to submitting to Project Manager for review.
- Assists Project Manager in calculating cost and determines feasibility of project based on analysis of collected data.
- Ensures all work has a stated budget prior to beginning work and identifies problems and discusses them with Project Manager prior to using 50% of allocated time.
- Maintains neat & orderly work area allowing access to project information to other team members.
- Provide an accurate accounting of time spent on projects with descriptions for each time entry on a weekly basis.
- May inspect construction site to determine conformance of site to design specifications.
- Provide guidance & development to fellow associates.

Physical Capacity Requirements*: Sitting, standing, walking, occasional lifting up to 50 lbs., talking, hearing, finger dexterity and/or feeling, near vision, far vision. Must be able to travel, at times long distances, by car or truck.
Environmental Conditions*:Primary work environment will be in an office, with secondary work environment job sites. Terrain may be level or highly challenging.
